At this year’s NMBS (National Merchant Buying Society) Exhibition, Knauf Insulation will be presenting its wide range of high performance insulation products on stand 165. As the UK’s leading manufacturer of insulation products, and the only producer of four different types of insulation, visitors to the stand will receive expert advice, whatever the application.
Lydia Sharples, Head of Communications at Knauf Insulation, said: “The exhibition is an ideal platform for Knauf Insulation to showcase its wide range of insulation solutions, suitable for both new build and upgrade projects. Proposed changes to Part L, the impending Green Deal and existing requirements under the Code for Sustainable Homes, means insulation remains firmly in the spotlight and Knauf Insulation is keen to ensure that members of the NMBS are geared up with the necessary knowledge – and insulation solutions – to take full advantage.”
The 2010 changes to Part L1A of the Building Regulations have placed an exceptional focus on tightening elemental U-values for the building fabric and a key area for meeting these targets is through a full-fill mineral wool approach. Full-fill insulation solutions account for a large percentage of the market for external cavity wall insulation and provide a number of benefits in terms of a cost effective solution in comparison to other options such as renewables. In addition, an equivalent thermal performance can be achieved to partial fill rigid board solutions (but at a lower cost), as well as being BBA certified for use in all exposure zones - all backed up with a 50 year performance guarantee.
In particular, the unprecedented focus in Part L on the thermal effect of party wall cavities – party wall bypass – now requires consideration. An effective U-value of 0.20 W/m2K can be achieved through effective edge sealing. A more beneficial effective U-value of 0.00 W/m2K can be achieved by fully filling the cavity. In order to help merchant’s customers meet the new requirements, as well as demonstrating compliance with Part E for party wall bypass, Knauf Insulation will be presenting its full-fill solutions suitable for meeting the requirement for both masonry and timber frame construction.
Knauf Insulation will also be promoting its tried and tested range of Earthwool DriTherm Cavity Slabs, through a full-fill application approach. The high quality semi-rigid or rigid slabs, made of non-combustible glass mineral wool offers a formal 50 year guarantee, and confidence to the installer that it provides excellent thermal performance and a quick installation.
As a global player in the insulation market, Knauf Insulation takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously. As such, its commitment to sustainable manufacturing can be seen in the company’s product development. The revolutionary ECOSE® Technology formaldehyde-free binding process significantly enhances the environmental benefits and sustainability of Knauf Insulation’s Earthwool whilst still delivering all the benefits of traditional mineral wool. Indeed, ECOSE Technology is also up to 70% less energy intensive than traditional oil based binders, producing a ‘super-soft’ and easier to handle wool, with a natural brown colour.
Lastly, the new addition to Knauf Insulation’s roofing and flooring range – Polyfoam ECO – now achieves a GWP of less than five and an ODP of zero. The rigid, lightweight insulation boards are easy to install and have the benefits of outstanding structural strength, long-term effectiveness, moisture resistance and excellent thermal performance.
