The Mayor and Labour Councilor for Torfaen County Borough Council, Giles Davies, visited leading manufacturer Knauf Insulation’s Cwmbran site on Friday 18 December.
The Mayor took a tour of the insulation manufacturer’s plant to understand its operations, and had the chance to meet the company’s local workers who showcased some of the sustainable ways that energy saving insulation is made at the factory.
As part of the tour there was also chance to hear about the history of the Knauf Group; its strong family ties and values, which are still very present today. Knauf Insulation is a global manufacturer, but it is the strong ties with the local Welsh community and a dedicated local workforce that underpin the quality of its product.
Darren Holt, Plant Manager, Cwmbran, commented: “With four manufacturing plants around the UK, investing, supporting and employing each of the local communities Knauf Insulation operates in, is very important.
“Here at Cwmbran, we have always employed local people. We’ve also made great strides to ensure we function sustainably, and that our manufacturing processes are as energy efficient as possible.
“Warmer, more comfortable homes have been repeatedly shown to reduce the risk of illness and preventable deaths in winter. However fuel poverty is a real problem in Torfaen and we know we have a vital role to play in tackling this issue through the products we produce and our wider campaigns to raise awareness of the need to help households have access to insulation.
The reality is that if your home is under insulated, energy bills will be higher than they need to be, even if you switch.”
