Following a heated contest, the team from Knauf Insulation has won the Travis Perkins Senior Masters Pro-Am at Woburn. The Knauf amateurs were drawn to play with professional golfer and 1999 Ryder Cup Captain Mark James and successfully beat 23 other competing teams.
Sponsoring the English PGA European Tour Senior Masters for the first time this year, Travis Perkins had invited amateur golfers from its suppliers to a Pro-Am competition. All teams consisted of one professional and three amateurs. The contest was held just before the main Senior Tours tournament, which started on 29 August.
The winning team consisted of Mark James, Stuart Bell and Neil Hargreaves from Knauf, along with Steve Doughty. Having the lowest combined handicap of all the competing teams, they won a closely fought competition, with the Travis Perkins’ directors being hot on their heels.
“We were pleased to take part in the event, which was kindly supported by Travis Perkins. It enabled everyone to get to know each other and to foster good relationships,” Neil Hargreaves said. “The weather was lovely and the Woburn course is just fantastic. Moreover, it was an absolute delight to play with Mark James and obtain the trophy in front of no less than three past Ryder Cup Captains.”
