Knauf Insulation, in conjunction with Bob the Builder and Project: Renovate, has helped improve the eco credentials of Safe ‘n’ Sound Nursery in Beverley, by providing an energy efficient renovation.
Launched in April 2009, Project: Renovate aims to educate nursery aged children on environmental issues as well as improve the conditions of the nursery building. Three lucky winners, including Safe ‘n’ Sound Nursery, were awarded a renovation worth up to £15,000, with ten runners upinning prizes up to the value of £1,000.
Previously, the poor thermal efficiency of Safe ‘n’ Sound’s nursery building meant they had to leave the heating on all weekend, to ensure the property was warm enough on Monday mornings. However, after proving its commitment to sustainability, Safe ‘n’ Sound was awarded solar panels and loft insulation, installed by the Mark Group, which will greatly improve the thermal and energy efficiency of the building.
Sally Campbell, Director of Safe ‘n’ Sound Nursery said: “Winning this competition has enabled us to reduce our energy consumption which was an area we had struggled with before. Knauf Insulation and Mark Group have done an amazing job of insulating the nursery loft, which will help keep us warmer. The solar panels will improve efficiency but also get the children and families we work with ‘thinking green’. The team were overwhelmed to have won after all the effort they put in and we are looking forward to a great day celebrating with Bob the Builder.”
Lydia Sharples, head of communications for Northern Europe at Knauf Insulation comments, “Sustainability is at the heart of Knauf Insulation and therefore it’s essential that we pass on our knowledge to others. This year the Project Renovate campaign has helped to educate over 18,000 pre schools on the importance of the environment with the scope that the sustainable messages will be delivered into the wider community.”
