Local manufacturer Knauf Insulation has achieved an industry first, after winning a leading environmental rating for products manufactured at its facility in Hartlepool.
The company has become the first manufacturer of XPS (extruded polystyrene) insulation in the UK to receive a certified ‘A’ rating from the BRE Green Guide for its Polyfoam ECO range of XPS insulation products – all of which are produced at its Hartlepool site.
The Green Guide is used as part of BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) – a widely respected environmental rating scheme for buildings.
Knauf Insulation’s Polyfoam® ECO range is the only extruded polystyrene insulation to have been independently assessed by the BRE to achieve a certified A rating – giving homeowners and DIYers complete confidence that the insulation products offer a proven green solution.
Stuart Bell, General Manager of Knauf Insulation’s Polyfoam manufacturing plant in Hartlepool, said: “We’re really pleased to have achieved this rating, which sets our Polyfoam ECO in an unrivalled position, as all other extruded polystyrene products currently available have a BRE Generic Green Guide rating of ‘E’.
“More and more people are looking to do their bit for the environment by making sure the products they use in their homes and businesses are environmentally friendly, so it’s up to manufacturers like us to provide assurances of sustainable performance. BRE testing is a robust procedure in which the product, as well as the whole manufacturing process and materials, are closely scrutinized, resulting in a trusted and independently verified rating – which we feel is an extremely positive endorsement of our product.”
