Knauf Insulation is pleased to announce that its commitment to sustainable development has led to the company being named as a finalist at the International Green Apple Awards 2013, for Environmental Improvement and Sustainable development.
As the UK’s leading insulation manufacturer and the third largest manufacturer of insulation in the world, Knauf Insulation takes its social and environmental responsibilities seriously, which was demonstrated within its award entry.
Recognising that true sustainability is much deeper than simply producing ‘green’ products, Knauf Insulation set out to improve its approach to sustainable operations, engagement and data processes. In August 2013 Knauf Insulation achieved zero waste to landfill at all four of its UK manufacturing plants by implementing a variety of processes. For example, at its Queensferry plant, the rock mineral wool waste is diverted to a recycling plant facility on site, which enables excess material to be put back into the manufacturing process.
What’s more, Knauf Insulation has developed an energy-tracking model to ensure that all of its equipment operating within the plants is performing optimally, as well as monitoring all energy use across the sites.
The winners of the International Green Apple Awards will be announced at the prizegiving ceremony held at the House of Commons in London, on Monday November 11 2013.
