Fire

Rocksilk Fire Barrier is classified as Euroclass A1 to BS EN 13501-1, Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame to BS 476:Part 7 and Class ‘O’ to the Building Regulations.

Fire resistance is effective from either side of the barrier. A 50mm Rocksilk Fire Barrier satisfies the criteria laid down in the Building Regulations for a half hour cavity barrier.

Description

Rocksilk Fire Barrier is a non-combustible, flexible mattress faced on one side with galvanised wire mesh which is stitched to the mattress with wire. Rocksilk Fire Barrier is available either unfaced or foil faced on one side between the wire mesh and the mineral wool.

Application

Rocksilk Fire Barrier is used for the compartmentation of large cavities.
It can be used in the following applications:

  • Large cavities beneath metal, concrete and timber decks
  • Large cavities above suspended ceilings
  • As a cavity barrier in timber roofs

A single layer of 50mm of Rocksilk Fire Barrier satisfies the criteria detailed in Approved Document B, Appendix A, Table A1, for 15 minutes insulation protection and 30 minutes integrity. Two layers of 50mm Rocksilk Fire Barrier with a 50mm airspace between achieves one hour fire protection in terms of both insulation and integrity.

Environmental

Rocksilk Fire Barrier has a generic BRE Green Guide rating of A. Rocksilk Fire Barrier represents no known threat to the environment and has zero Ozone Depletion Potential and zero Global Warming Potential.

Standards

Rocksilk Fire Barrier is manufactured in accordance with BS EN 13162, ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, as certified by Bureau Veritas.

Certification

Rocksilk Fire Barrier has been subjected to full scale fire resistance tests to BS 476: Part 22: 1987. Tests included vertical and horizontal joints.

Durability

Rocksilk Fire Barrier is odourless, rot proof, non-hygroscopic, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria.

Handling and storage

Rocksilk Fire Barrier is easy to handle and install. It is supplied in polyethylene packs which are designed for short term protection only.For longer term protection on site, it is recommended to store the product either indoors,or under cover and off the ground. Product information is mentioned on every pack. Rocksilk Fire Barrier should not be left permanently exposed to the elements.
