CE Marking, the Construction Products Directive (CPD) and the Construction Products Regulation (CPR)

CE Marking, the Construction Products Directive (CPD) and the Construction Products Regulation (CPR)

Construction Products Regulation (CPR)

CPR

The existing Construction Products Directive (CPD) will be withdrawn on the 30th June 2013 and replaced by the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). From 1st March 2003, factory made thermal insulation products for buildings could only be legally placed on the Market if they complied with the Construction Products Directive (CPD). CE marked products were automatically presumed to comply with the CPD.

CE marking may be fixed to the product itself, to a label attached to it, on its packaging or on any accompanying documentation such as delivery notes. The CE mark not only consists of the CE logo but includes identification of the supplier, the last two digits of the year of manufacture, the number of the EC Certificate of Conformity, the identification of an approved testing or certification body and relevant technical specifications along with classes of performance.

The CE mark is a visible display of a products “fitness for purpose”.

The Construction Products Regulation (CPR)

The CPR builds upon the CPD and aims to break down technical barriers to trade in construction products within the European Economic Area.

From the 1st of July 2013 it is mandatory for product manufacturers to CE mark any of their products which are covered by a harmonised European Standard (hEN) or a European Technical Assessment (ETA).

Declaration of Performance (DoP)

The most important part of the CPR is the Declaration of Performance (DoP) which contains all of the key information about a product`s characteristic`s, when compiling the DoP the product manufacturer assumes responsibility that the product is in confirmation with its declared performance characteristics.

The DoP also delivers transparency about the product as the information is readily available via a URL (web site address) which will be printed on product labels, packaging or invoices and allows the customer to go directly to the DoP for that specific product.

Knauf Insulation Products and the CPR

Important to note is that products that are currently CE marked or have been CE marked before July 1st 2013 are deemed to comply automatically with the CPR.

Knauf Insulation will provide a DoP for each product which you will be able to find online via a unique URL (web address) to be found on the product label, packaging or invoice. A Safety Data Sheet will also accompany each product`s DoP.

From 1st July 2013, to access a product`s DoP simply copy its URL and paste it into your web browser, this will take you to our online database of DoP’s at www.dopki.com.

All of Knauf Insulations building insulation products are CPR ready, additionally the CPR does not apply to fire protection and acoustic insulation products so they are unaffected by this new legislation.
