CHALLENGE

With the increasingly difficult challenges posed by the Code for Sustainable Homes, developers are looking for cost effective solutions which do not compromise performance and enable them to meet the various targets required by the different levels of the Code.

On the Egypt Hill, Leckhampstead project in the South-East of England the housebuilder was looking for a Code level 3 solution which would guarantee high levels of energy efficiency and long term performance as well as an insulation material which was inherently sustainable.

The scale of the project meant that any products used needed to be both cost effective and easy to install and would also need to offer the very highest standards of moisture resistance and thermal efficiency.

SOLUTION

Knauf Insulation proposed full fill 100mm Crown DriTherm 32 Cavity Slab as a cost effective and sustainable method of achieving the Code level 3 requirements of the project.

Crown DriTherm Cavity Slabs are semi-rigid or rigid slabs of non-combustible glass mineral wool which ensure excellent levels of thermal efficiency. They are inherently sustainable as they are manufactured using a high content of recycled glass bottles.

Because there is no requirement for special retaining discs or cavity barriers, Crown DriTherm Cavity Slabs are both quicker to install and more cost effective than rigid foam boards.

The entire range is BBA certified for all exposure zones and has a 35 year successful performance heritage with millions of cavities already insulated.

The product ensures reliable long term performance with minimal heat loss due to the fact that the slabs knit together at joints and fully fill the cavity and thereby problems associated with partial fill cavities can be avoided.

Crown DriTherm Cavity Slabs are rigorously tested and are formally guaranteed for 50 years to prevent the transmission of liquid water from the outer masonry leaf to the inner masonry leaf.

DriTherm is the only cavity wall insulation product to offer such an array of benefits while remaining a costeffective and sustainable option. With solutions for every level of the Code, DriTherm offers flexibility in designing low and zero carbon homes not just today but also in the future.
